(13)Movie Review: Hanu-Man [CBFC: U/A 2024 ‧ Action/Adventure ‧ 2h 38m]

"Hanu-Man," which is directed by Prasanth Varma, under the banner of Prasanth Varma Cinematic Universe is an action and adventurous superhero film where one gets to watch a modern version of the legendary Hindu deity Hanuman. This film is a mixture of Indian mythology with a strong narration, creating a unique watching experience for everyone.

Plot & Characters:

This story is a journey of a young man named Hanumant who lives in a village called Anjanadri with his elder sister. Anjanadri is a fictional name and no such village actually exists in reality. It can be said that the name is inspired by Lord Hanuman's mothers name Anjani and so does the village name Anjanadri. During a fight sequence in a jungle he falls off from a cliff into a river. While he completely drowns in the river he sees a light glazing out from a shell. Inside the shell, is present a "mani" which he takes with him. This mani contains Lord Hanuman's blood drop inside which makes it naturally powerful. But, the speciality of this stone is that it works only in the presence of sunlight and is inactive during night. When one watches through the mani during the sunlight they will acquire the power of Lord Hanuman. In order to get this supersonic natural power the antagonist is behind Hanumant to hunt him down to get that power as his intention is to rule over the world with the help of that Supreme Power. The way in which Hanumant fights back to save his village people and getting rid away from the villain himself forms the crux of the story.

The transformation of the protagonist from a normal individual to becoming a heroic figure is both thrilling and inspirational. The film showcases his internal struggles and the external challenges he faces while embracing his destiny.

Performance & Direction:

The lead actor Teja Sajja delivers a powerful performance who actually very well captures the vulnerability and strength of his character.
PV’s direction is on the next level which balances and mixes up the traditional elements with modern cinema techniques very well. His vision brings a fresh perspective to the mythological genre, making it accessible and engaging for today’s audience.

Visuals & Music:

Talking about special effects shown in this cinema they're quite impressive as it shows Teja's divine abilities.
The cinematography is beautiful, capturing the vivid landscapes of Anjanadri and the wonderful stone made statue of Lord Hanuman
The musical score enhances the emotional and dramatic moments but some songs in between is absolutely not needed and they do not add any benefit to the existing storyline. Only the Hanuman Chalisa song played at the end of the film adds a complete divinity to the storyline making it perfectly fit in that slot. The Hanuman Chalisa song is very powerful and one of the best version made ever! It is surely going to give you goosebumps, that's the beauty of the soundtrack.

Themes and Messages:

The film explores themes like self-discovery, courage, responsibility and your duty towards justice. It shows us that greatness can arise even from the most unexpected places and emphasizes the importance of using one’s powers for the greater good and towards the betterment of the society rather than misusing it. These themes resonate strongly with the entire plot of the movie, providing both entertainment and a moral lesson at the same time.

Conclusion:

"Hanu-Man" is a refreshing addition to the mythological superhero genre. It combines traditional storytelling with modern filmmaking, offering a compelling and visually stunning experience. Whether you are a fan of mythology or superhero tales, this film is sure to captivate and inspire you from within. This film holds the power to develop a genuine devotion towards Lord Hanuman in all senses making you a humble devotee of Lord Hanuman Ji(this opinion can vary from individual to individual).
I would highly recommend you to watch this film. I do not say this usually for any film but this movie can be watched for 'n' number of times.
