(3)Movie Review: DSP [CBFC: U/A 2022 ‧ Action/Thriller ‧ 2h 24m]

The film "DSP" is an outwardly energetic and drawing-in activity stuffed spine chiller film that catches the embodiment of customary brave demonstrations with a contemporary turn in it. The film, which was directed by Ponram sir, stars Vijay Sethupathi in the title role giving a stronger performance which is better than the norm. DSP M. Vascodagama, a brave, fearless, courageous and righteous police officer, is the main focus of the plot where he is determined to get rid of all the crime and corruption happening in his area.

The storyline is driven by DSP's determined quest for equity, where he handles an infamous group of thugs driven by the considerable bad guy, depicted splendidly by Prabhakar.
The story moves quickly and has a mix of dramatic action sequences, touching scenes, and comedic moments to keep the audience interested until the very end. The film's success can be attributed to Ponram's direction, which demonstrates his ability to seamlessly combine these elements and produce a film that will appeal to a wide range of viewers.

Vijay Sethupathi's depiction as the DSP is a champion that grandstands his flexibility as an entertainer. His charismatic presence on screen, combined with his nuanced performance, gives the character depth. The female lead, Anukreethy Vas, and the supporting cast give strong performances that work well with Sethupathi's character and add another layer to the plot.

A special mention should be given to the film's action choreography, which has been well-executed as the fight scenes keep the audience on the edge of their seats. The vibrant and gritty atmosphere of these locations has been nicely captured by the cinematographer, which enhances the viewing experience.
The songs of D. Imman elevates the film's emotional drama moments which adds an extra layer of intensity.

The film also discusses about the morality, justice, and the personal sacrifices made by those who upholds the law and order. The screenplay offsets every one of the topics with the activity-driven plot, making the film more engaging and intriguing.

However, there are some issues with the film. A few of their characters lack depth, serving more as plot devices than fully developed individuals, and some of the twists in their stories are predictable. The film's strong points manages to outweigh its weaknesses, despite these minor flaws.

Last but not least, "DSP" is a must-see for those who enjoy Vijay Sethupathi's acting and fans of the action thriller genre. This is a movie that lives up to its promise of excitement and entertainment. Thanks to Ponram's direction, its strong cast, and a riveting plot. "DSP" has something for everyone, whether you're looking for a high-octane action, emotional drama, or a compelling story.

P.S.: I have seen some review sites have given very low ratings to this movie but SCREEN SPEAK would rate this movie with a 7.5/10. So, why am I rating it as 7.5?

So, based on its content, "DSP" could be rated with 7.5 out of 10.
This rating given by me directly reflects the film's strong performance by Vijay Sethupathi. A well-choreographed action scenes and the direction by Ponram makes it watchable. While the movie successfully embraces action, drama, and humour, there are some areas of the movie which is predictable and the underdeveloped characters that prevent it from scoring a higher mark. Overall, it is an entertaining and enjoyable film that will appeal to the fan club of action thrillers and Vijay Sethupathi's work.
